TARGET AUDIENCE
This course designed specifically for Electrical Supervisors, project Managers and Senior Management and Non-Practitioners to enable a greater appreciation of the hazards associated with working in explosive atmospheres and the promotion of safe working practices.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
To provide basic electrical installation and inspection knowledge in compliance with international standards
IEC 60079-14 & 17.

On completion of the course, the participants are able:
   a) To understand the legislation or directives working in explosive atmospheres
   b) Awareness of typical flammable atmospheres situations and types of release
   c) Basic principles of area classification i.e. zones, apparatus groups and temperature classification
   d) To identify hazardous area equipment
   e) To identify types of protection for equipment for use in hazardous areas
   f) To understand safety measure in dealing with hazardous areas and equipment

  • Legislation for working in explosive atmosphere [ATEX 95, ATEX137, DSEAR]
  • Hazardous Areas
    • - Preventative Measures IEC 60079-14
    • - Ignition sources EN 1127-1
    • - Characteristics of gasses & vapours (IEC 60079-10-1)
    • - Characteristics of dust (IEC 60079-10-2)
    • - Area classification
    • - Signage
    • - ATEX categories and IEC Equipment Protection Level (IEC 60079-14)
  • Equipment for use in Hazardous Areas
    • - Types of Protection (Non electrical and electrical)
    • - Ingress protection (IP rating)
    • - Equipment Labeling
    • - Inspection / Maintenance work / Repairs / Modifications
    • - Control Personal Equipment
ONLINE ASSESSMENT
  • Multiple Choice Exam (MCQ)



DELIVERY
   Teaching aids, apparatus, slides, videos, practical demonstrations, questionnaires, and exercises.

CERTIFICATION
   Certificate of Completion - by JTL

PRE-REQUISITES
   This course contains no practical skills training or practical assessment and is therefore suited to anyone involved in hazardous area work who does not carry out installation or inspection of electrical equipment.
